graph

This line graph shows the US number of farms and farm workers in the period 1910-2000.

It shows in this graph that the number of the workers is always higher than the number of farms. But in the last few years the number of farms and workers was closer. In 1910 the workers number was over 12 million and the number of farms was over 6 million. After 35 years the number of farms and workers decreased. In 1950 the number of workers was 10 million and the farms were under 6 million. After 40 years, in 1990, the number became very low at just over 2 million. The workers became 3 million and the farms became close to 2 million and it stayed the same to the year 2000.

In summary, I can see from this graph that the numbers of farms and workers declined in the twentieth century.

Mobile phones

Mobile phones are a very useful invention. They can make life much easier than before. These days people use mobile phones to send messages and they are very useful. Nowadays students use mobile phones in college but they should put them on silent. In this essay I will show you the advantages and the disadvantages.

The first point is that students should pay attention to the teacher and not play and message with the mobile phone. Another thing is making noise in the class room, ringing all the time and distracting every body. And also their GPA will suffer and they will get low grades.

On the other hand, mobile phones can be useful in class to send for the teacher why you're absent for the class. Also students can use the mobile phone in class only for an emergency. And the last thing is to message the classmate if they have an exam, to remind them.

In summary, mobile phones can be useful but students can't use them in the class. I think the mobile phone is not that useful in class.

Traffic congestion

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, is a big city. In all cities, people have traffic and parking problems. This essay discusses what solutions are there to these problems.

The main cause is the population has increased fast which is the first problem. The second problem is Abu Dhabi has economic development which causes each family who is living in Abu Dhabi to have more than one car. The next problem is in the summer season when the weather is not appropriate for walking or biking under high temperature. The last problem is lack of adequate public transport at the currant time.

Although there are many problems, there are many solutions. The first solution is each building or tower should have adequate parking to reduce parking problems. If every city improves their public transport, there will be less traffic problems. The next solution is every government should raise the age of licence holders which will reduce the amount of young drivers. The last solution is improving the existing road system: bridges, over - passes and underpasses. For example, the government of Abu Dhabi has discussed creating a new bridge which will increase the number of entrance and exit roads.

As a result, these problems need to be solved by some of these solutions such as each building and tower should have enough parking which is an appropriate solution to the parking issue. The next obvious solution is creating adequate exiting and entrances.

Water shortages

Water shortages in the UAE

The UAE is a desert country, with very little annual rainfall, and so there is a constant problem of water shortage.

The most obvious reason for the shortage of water is the rapid population growth. More people means more food and this has led to a growing demand for an increase in agricultural production, which in turn means more irrigation and therefore more water. In addition, the economy of the country has expanded enormously over the past 50 years. Industrialization has greatly increased the demand for water. The climate of the UAE makes it difficult to meet the increased demand for water. There is very little rainfall and no surface water. Wastage of water and leaking water pipes make the situation worse.

Desalination is perhaps the most obvious solution. It’s expensive but the UAE is a rich country. Similarly, making better use of underground water is not cheap but it would help to answer to the problem. Dams to store water when it does rain have already been built in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Charging people more for water, educational programmes in schools and colleges, and national advertising campaigns could also raise public awareness of the problem.

In practice, the UAE gets most of its fresh water from desalination plants. This is the most obvious short-term solution. In the long run, however, raising public awareness of the problem and encouraging people to use water more responsibly is the most important factor in solving the problem of water shortages.

Qatar is also close to UAE percentage . Iraq and Turkey are close in Women percentage which is 22% and in men it is the same.

Hurricanes and Tornadoes.

This table describes same information about two strong winds. In this table there are two winds, hurricanes and tornadoes. Both of them destroy the land.

The minimum wind speed for the hurricanes is 74 pm but the tornadoes is less with 40 mph. Whereas the maximum wind speed of the hurricanes is 155 – 200 mph ,the maximum tornadoes speed is 250 – 300 mph which means that it is higher than that of a hurricane. On the other hand, the classification scale of the hurricanes is Saffir – Simpson C1 – C5 but for the tornadoes the Fujita F0 – F5. The duration of the hurricanes is 1 week average whereas tornadoes mostly only last a few minutes, same up to a few hours. However the average width of storm for the hurricanes is 300 miles but for the tornadoes 100 – 600 meters some up to 1.5 km wide. Hurricanes can be predicted 2-3 days in advance for a wide area but they can usually be predicted more exactly where they will hit 6 – 10 hours beforehand, whereas the tornadoes’ warning is 20 minutes or less. The last difference is where they start. The hurricanes start over worm oceans but the tornadoes usually over land.

cars

This table shows us the specifications of four popular medium-sized saloon cars. In this essay I will analyze this information.

First I will talk about the Toyota Corolla. It’s about $15, 550 with a 1400cc engine; also with 48 miles per gallon and it’s made in Japan. The second car, which is also made in Japan, is the Nissan Micra. It costs $ 15,500 and it has the smallest engine of the four cars which is 1200cc and 52 miles per gallon. The third car I am going to talk about is the Volkswagen Golf which is made in Germany. It has the biggest engine of the four cars which is 1600cc. Also it costs $ 18,250 and goes for 40 miles per gallon. And finally the last car is the Ford Focus. The Ford Focus has the same size as the Toyota Corolla’s engine and it costs about $15,800. It’s made in the USA and it does 50 miles per gallon.

In summary, as the table says, the most economical car is the Nissan Micra and it is the cheapest car.

Top Ten Date-producing Countries, 2001

There are many countries in the world farming palm-trees to produce dates. These are the top ten date-producing countries in 2001.

There are ten countries producing dates. Egypt is the top producer of these ten countries. It produced around 1,100,000 tonnes. The second country is Iran. It produced 250,000 tonnes less than Egypt. And the UAE comes in third. It produced 700,000 tonnes. Saudi Arabia produced less than the UAE by about 50,000 tonnes. Also Pakistan is one of the ten. It produced around 650,000 tonnes as it says in the chart. Iraq is close to Pakistan’s figure. The top of the last four countries is Algeria and it is half of the UAE’s production. Oman is less than Algeria. It produced 201,000 tonnes. Sudan is also one of the ten. It produced 190,000 tonnes. The last country is Libya which produced around 100,000 tonnes.

In summary, I can see that Egypt came top and Libya is the last. There are a lot of countries interested in that kind of farming.

UK budget 1996

The UK government's budget in 1996 was £ 315 billion. This pie chart shows what the government spent the money on, divided into ten categories .
The government spent most money, by far, on social security, £100 billion. This was almost twice as much as the next category, health, which cost £ 53 billion. The other half of the budget is spent on eight other things. One is transport which was £ 9 billion which is very important. Another one is law and order. They spent £ 17 billion on it. Also they spent £38 billion on education. On industry, agriculture and employment they spent £13 billion .They spent £ 22 billion on defence as well. Also they spent £ 23 billion on other expenditure. They spent on the last two £ 40 billion: on debt interest they spent £ 25 billion and on housing, heritage and environment £15 billion.

The most striking feature of the chart is that social security and health expenditure combined accounted for almost a half of the UK budget 1996.
